//#ThrowbackThursday - A preview of one our main poetry events we hosted in 2018, featuring Twenty Journey Exhibition//
Wassup fam. I hope you are all well. I've decided to share a throwback to one of my favorite events that we hosted in 2018. Last year we organnized a poetry show "Spoken Words on Democracy" at the Johannes Stegmann Art Gallery - UFS. The show complimented an exhibition which was currently running, called "Twenty Journey" - An exhibition by 3 photographers (Sipho Mpongo, Wikus de Wet and Sean Metelerkamp) who went on a journey to explore South Africa 20 years into Democracy. You can find more information about the exhibition and the 3 artists here. The turn out was great, and I believe the show reached it's objectives/goals.
For this poetry show, we had selected 6 amazing local poets who shared their work on the theme around Democracy, and there was also time for the audience to engage with the poets because we wanted everyone to be a part of the conversation. The poets who participated in this event were Hape Mokhele, Jubilee Rivombo, Nomthandazo Nxabela, Bandile Mathebula, Oratile - B.O.M - Molale and Verbal Vision (Loyiso Dongo). We also had Ace Moloi (Author of "In her fall rose a nation" and "Holding my Breath") as the MC for the evening, and he blessed the occasion with a reading from his latest book "#TholwanaTsaTokoloho " . I'm glad to say that the show was a huge success, and it's all credit to everyone who was involved in making it possible. Prior to the event, the poets drew inspiration from the exhibition (to create the poems they performed) and also participated in a short workshop that gave them the opportunity to also create a poem collectively.
With all this being said, I've decided to share with you some of the videos and pictures from the event. [ Photo & Video Cred: Obakeng Mosadi and Nthangeni Netshifulani ]
And that's about it. You can check out more videos on our Facebook Page, and feel free to give us feedback on the poems. Don't forget to leave a comment on the article below, and also subscribe to our mailing list below so that you keep up to date with our events that we have planned for the year.
