The Radioactive Blog turns 5

// The 20th of January is the day that our online creative hub was born ; we're 5 now //

Wassup wassup fam. I hope that you are alive and well, while navigating this new normal way of living. This article is a bit delayed, but none the less, I still had to share the good news on the blog turning 5 this year (on the 20th of January to be exact).

It's been a roller coaster ride since the beginning (and just for the record, the blog was created over 5 years ago, but we started function as an online creative hub in 2016), and it's a privilege to still be active in spite of all the challenges we've faced to date. We really appreciate the support we've received from all the stakeholders we've worked with so far over the past few years, and look forward to working with more artists, organisations and movements over the next 5 years. Do feel free to check out our "About page" to find out more about the blog and a list of the organisations we've worked with so far.

I created the collage below to kinda paint a picture of the work we've done and the events we've featured on. Last year was a rough year for the blog, but we still managed to implement some of our initiatives, so hopefully this year we'll be able to be more active, not just online, but also in different communities (within COVID regulations of course). The images below are from poetry events, workshops, art exhibitions and Augmented Reality workshops that we've hosted and some that we've featured on at different festivals, & some in different countries over the past 3 years.

If you would like to keep up to date with the work that we do and the content we promote, feel free to subscribe to our website (below this article) and follow our social media pages ( Facebook & Instagram ). A few projects / initiatives that you should look out for and that we will be implementing soon are :

  • The Radioactive Poetry Cafe (Online edition) which we will launch on the 1st of February 2021 - we are bringing our monthly poetry show back, but it will be online and it will premiere on Facebook before being made available on Instagram and YouTube.

  • The Radioactive Collective Doccie - this is a documentary of my trip to Malawi with 3 amazing South African poets (Ntaoleng Patience Labane, Oratile Molale, and Hope Netshivhambe) in 2019. They were selected to participate at the Tumaini festival which takes place at the Dzaleka Refugee camp, and unfortunately I was not able to visit the festival again last year due to the ongoing pandemic, so hopefully this year we'l be able to visit the festival.

  • Spoken Word of Elohim (Online) - This Christian based poetry and music initiative was put on hold a few years ago, but we are planning on bringing it back this year, online. The first episode is scheduled to premier in March.

  • Other initiatives still to be confirmed - Giving Poetry Wings 4 ; Radioactive Poetry Workshops ; Radioactive Hip Hop workshop ; Augmented Reality workshop for beginners ; Radioactive Marketing Workshop.

That's about it for today fam. I hope you'll be able to join us for the first episode of the Radioactive Poetry Cafe online edition when it premieres on the 1st of February 2021. We have a dope line up of great poets, so you don't wanna miss out. Until we link up online again , stay safe, stay blessed, and let's connect on Twitter @2tukani. Peace!!!
