// The Pan African Creative Exchange - 25 to 29 August 2020 ; The program is out!!! //
Wassup wassup fam. I hope you are all well and keeping safe. Today, I'd like to inform you about the Pan-African Creative Exchange (PACE) "Entangled" which will be taking place at the end of this month. For those who are not familiar with PACE, it's basically an Interdisciplinary (Performing) Arts Provocation that you should not miss. This year's program is really amazing, and features a number unique and diverse stakeholders within the international creative economy.
I know you might be asking yourself whether PACE is actually for you. Well, if you're reading this, then it probably is. It's a platform for the following creatives: Venue Managers – national and international, Artistic Directors, Promoters, Producers, Festival Organisers, Funders, Development Agencies, Policymakers, Critics, Artists, Academia and International peers. It's guaranteed to be an awesome 5 days (25 August to 29 August 2020), so make sure you click on the image below (or click here) to find out who's on the line up and what to expect, and don't forget to register.
Here are 6 benefits of attending PACE: 1) Opportunities to network internationally and, in particular, grow networks across the African continent ; 2) Raise the profile of African artists and their innovative, cutting-edge work on the world stage ; 3) Engage in dialogue and critical debate, raising awareness of the context of African creative works and African artists ; 4) Develop artistic partnerships ; 5) Broaden opportunities for African artists internationally through touring, co-producing and artistic collaborations ; 6) Enable international funders, promoters and presenters to share policy and practice. Now that you know all of this, you can proceed to register here.
To end this blog post, I thought it would be ideal to just share a more background information about PACE, so that you also know which amazing stakeholders are involved, as well as how this initiative will "facilitate connections between the growing creative and cultural industries in Africa and international partners worldwide, to reinforce a world class, online business-to-business event that reflects the wider, global cultural significance of the creativity of Africa."
"The Pan-African Creative Exchange (PACE), an initiative of the Vrystaat Arts Festival, is a biennial arts market for African artists, developed for national and international presenters and producers, providing the highest quality inter-disciplinary arts product (theatre, dance, music, craft etc) from Africa, to buyers, artists and the general public. PACE was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa at a long table conversation between arts professionals from the African continent and international visitors in 2015, and is driven by a ‘coalition of the willing’ from the African continent as well as cultural professionals outside of Africa.
In 2020 there are nine strands to PACE: presenting full shows for tour-ready work; showcasing excerpts of tour-ready work; showcasing excerpts of work in progress; pitching new work; a PACE New Voices programme; a producer’s shadowing and exchange program; critical debate/roundtable sessions; networking programmes; and key PACE programming events. The aims of PACE are to increase the global reach of Africa’s arts industry to the wider world and to contribute to the continent’s development of future work."
