Giving Poetry Wings 3 @ vNAF

Updated: Jun 4, 2020

// GPW 3 Application Deadline: 10 June 2020 ; We're going virtual this year ; #vNAF //

Yo fam. I told you that we're busy planning something big, and now we can finally reveal the good news. Giving Poetry Wings 3 (GPW) is officially around the corner, and this is undoubtedly, hands down, no questions asked, our favorite initiative. (Side note - we also have another initiative in the pipelines that we will implement this month, so make sure you subscribe to our site in order to stay up to date).

Alright, for those who are not familiar with GPW: This year - because it keeps on developing each year - it will be an Extended Reality (XR) art exhibition, showcasing collaborative work developed by selected poets and digital artists. This will be a result of online workshops hosted by "your's truly" (recipient of the Word N Sound "Innovation in Poetry Award" 2019) prior to the virtual exhibition, with the aim of creating a space and opportunity for poets to have their work developed beyond paper, as well as for digital artists to create new themed work inspired by poetry. You can read more about what went down last year at the second edition here, and if you know how we roll, then you know that this year, it can only get better. It's amazing what creatives can produce over a short period of time, especially when collaboration is based on synergy. This is going to be the 3rd edition of GPW, and we gotta thank the National Arts Festival and their amazing team (especiallyCreativate and Lauren Fletcher, who is way busier than me just so you know) for their continued support since 2018. We would not have come this far without them, and the artists as well.

Anyway, I can't say too much yet, because this is just a call for artists (poets and digital artists), so if you know someone who would be interested please share this opportunity with them, and if you fit the description of what we're looking for, then we cannot wait to receive your application fam. We'll be sharing more specific info with regards to the actual exhibition launch within the next few days, and we'll also let you know once the Creativate program goes public, so that you also get to check out other dope stuff that will be taking place during the festival. This year, we've decided to open the application not only to artists based in South Africa but also artists in Malawi as well, and we can only select 10 (8 SA & 2 MW), so it's going to be very interesting and competitive. The deadline for applications is the 10th of June, so please make sure you don't procrastinate on this one. We're looking for artists who really want to find innovative ways of creating, delivering and promoting their work, so ambition, discipline, and a willingness to learn are some of the key things we'll be looking for in your application. You can find the application here / click on the image below / scan the QR code in the image.

More information can be found in the form, and if you have any questions or inquiries, do not hesitate to contact us via radioactivetuts@gmail.com. All the best with your application, and let's connect on the social media streets fam @2tukani.
